t-stone baths. The tiny Kingdom of Bhutan sits widge amongst the mighty Himalayas in a mountainous landscape cut by deep rivers valleys and terraced rice fields. Known to its people as Druk Yul, or “Land of the Thunder Dragon” it is the last bastion of authentic Himalayan Buddishm.
The streets of Thimphu, Paro and Phuentsholing bustle with locals working and socialising, and guests exploring markets and museums. Meanwhile, in tranquil valleys and on vertiginous hillsides, people churn milk into butter, gather wild greens from the forest, and chat over suja, or butter tea. There’s a pace – and a place – for everyone.

Bhutan: Das Glück im Kleinen finden
Bhutan ist ein Zwergstaat im Himalaya – zwischen China und Indien. Die Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner des Königreichs galten lange Zeit als die glücklichsten der Welt, obwohl ihr Lebensstandard vergleichsweise gering war. “Unser Land ist wie ein Paradies”, sagt Namgay, ein Bauer in Bhutan. “Es gibt keinen Krieg und keine Betrügereien. Alle sind unter dem König mit Glück gesegnet.”
Die Regierung hat das Glück seiner Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner zum Staatsziel gemacht. Der technische Fortschritt erreichte das Land erst spät. So fehlte den Menschen lange der Vergleich mit der Außenwelt. Mit dem Internet änderte sich das. Vor allem junge Leute suchen ihr Glück nun vermehrt im Ausland.
